It’s time for a special edition of the newsletter where I highlight a trending meme. If you’re new, you can subscribe here. Views are my own. Happy reading!
Hi! Before we begin, I have an important message for you. This is the last Meme Monday that’s going to be outside the paywall. I know this might be an unwelcome development, but I spend a lot of time putting together this newsletter every week, and I consider Meme Mondays my “dessert” content – i.e. content that’s not necessarily needed but still enjoyed. I hope you’ll consider subscribing for $7/month or $80/year to support a small, independent creator like myself. If this poses a financial hardship and you’re an avid reader, please feel free to message me! Thank you.
What is the meme?
This is more of a timeless meme than a time sensitive one. It’s not necessarily trending as much as it is popping up every now and then, but I still wanted to break it down haha.
In the meme, a person or thing breaks free from their chains, usually for a reason stated in the caption. The new occasional twist is that the chains are then re-done, representing a comedic course reversal.
Who is in the meme?
A vague, sunsetted figure breaking out of their chains.
When did the meme pop up?
I’ve been seeing this one for a while. According to “Know Your Meme,” this stock image has been circulating on the internet since 2022.
Where is the meme?
Wherever one finds memes.
Look, manifesting! Gen Z Translator vocab word!
Why is the meme?
Don’t we all like to think we’re empowered enough to break free from our shackles when we need to?
