What is the meme?
A phrase that includes “clocking that I’m standing on business” in some form or another, accompanied by a piece of media.
Who is in the meme?
These are often pop culture movie references from scenes that could relate to the phrase, or realistic situations. The references range from The Hunger Games to Batman to Conclave and more.
When did the meme pop up?
Last week, variations of the meme became popularized.
According to Vulture, “On Saturday, June 13, Bieber confronted paparazzi outside of a Malibu club in a blue hoodie, where he tried to explain his annoyance to them by saying, very seriously, ‘You’re not getting it. It’s not clocking to you. It’s not clocking to you that I’m standing on business, is it?’”
Why is the meme?
Vulture reporter Fran Hoepfner wrote “Bieber’s ongoing war against the paparazzi, and seemingly also himself and those around him, has reached a point of thudding tediousness. He is clearly unhappy, and whatever he’s attempting to do to rectify that isn’t working.”
A Reddit user wrote in response to the Bieber confrontation, “I thought I was clocking a gag but it turns out the gag was clocking me...”
