What is the meme?

A pair of people shaking hands, set to the song “Illegal” by PinkPantheress. The snippet used in the meme includes the first lines of the song: “My name is Pink and I'm really glad to meet you / You're recommended to me by some people / Hey, ooh, is this illegal?”.

Who is in the meme?

Two people who already know each other. Sometimes the two people have some sort of amusing fun fact in common and other times the meme highlights an entertaining contrast between the two people.

In fact, sometimes the two people in the meme are the creator of the song and Lola Young, another singer.

When did the meme pop up?

The song was released as a single on June 6 and the first memes using it seem to have begun on June 12.

Why is the meme?

This isn’t really a laugh-out-loud hilarious meme to me, but it’s still amusing enough that it’s produced several TikToks that have cleared over a million likes.

The meme is popular for people to make because it gives them the chance to share a funny tidbit from their life and it’s popular for the viewer because some of these personal fun facts really are pretty surprising.

It also helps that the song is pretty catchy.
