It’s Gen Z Translator’s One Year Anniversary this month! Celebrate by telling a friend!
Sometimes, you just have to laugh at ridiculous times social media transcended the internet – and not always in a good way. Here are some posts I’ve taken note of this summer that do just that.
1. Your newest IKEA employee
IKEA was hiring for virtual employees to man a Roblox storefront and offering to pay them real money. Is this the dream job of the future or a crazy marketing ploy? Either way, £13.15 could be coming someone’s way if they want to greet customers, eye-less and soul-less.
2. A unique way to remember giving birth
Strava is a workout app, usually used to record hiking, running, and biking. But birth? I guess there’s a first time for everything. This anonymous woman on social media recorded her experienced with a run-time of five hours and 37 minutes, 81 beats per minute, and 914 calories burned. Not to mention, it was her longest activity on the app.
3. Like and subscribe for more fresh content 😍
Have you ever been minding your own business in the grocery store, inspecting a wayward fruit, when BAM – you’re hit by the self-promotion? “Bro I’m not going to my pears’ YouTube channel,” might resonate with you then. (The outdated social media logos really sell this image).
4. Check yourself before you wreck yourself
It’s not every day you’re gently corrected by your work messaging system in a time of peril, let alone execute a smooth recovery. In this screenshot, Pragun Dua messages “GUYS IM STUCK,” to which Slack’s coded bot reminds the channel to use more inclusive alternatives, leading to the follow-up message, “FOLKS IM STUCK.”
Slackbot was unfortunately unable to read the room. (The room Pragun was stuck in).
5. Okay Spotify, tell us what you really think
Oops, I hope Estelle is okay. Spotify dealt a pretty low blow when it curated a “Cringe Mix” playlist for emotional music. I’m all for curated Spotify playlists, as I’ve talked about before, but there comes a time in every algorithm’s life where it misses the point. Didn’t need to give such a savage read1 there, buddy.
